What Causes Breathing Difficulty Post Treatment For ITP?

Hi. My daughter was recently in the Childrens ICU for ITP. Something very new to us. She was admitted a week because of low RBC,WBC and Platelets counts and had to have transfusions, IVIG s and bone marrow biopsy. Sent home with Steroids and other medicine. A week later we took her back to ED with very sore throat and abdominal and back pain. Platelets were ok but WBC was still low. They sent her home with an antibiotic for urinary tract infection and oral medicine for thrush. Her mouth was already spotted inside from the ITP but she has been on all this medicine and been in pain and now complaining of new pain. Doctors appt is Wednesday but she is saying its hard to breath, pain in stomach and throat , left leg(knee) ,back, and feels like she has to throw up. My question: Should I take her to ED now?

Hello,

She may be suffering with something more like pancytopenia rather than ITP. Immunosuppressants and IVIG are useful. If platelet count is low, you may need transfusion. This needs to be confirmed by a bone marrow biopsy and Coombs test.

Present condition may be due to pneumonia or secondary Infection. Please consult your doctor, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care.
