What Causes Breathlessness And Chest Discomfort While Suffering From Pulmonary Sarcoidosis?

Hi, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Sarcoidosis last year. About a month ago, I developed pain or discomfort when breathing and I also started coughing, which I hadn t had before, which is worse when I talk, laugh, cry, or raise my voice above average level, or do any physical activity. I have always had shortness of breath. Is this a common symptom? I am on Prednisone, Methotrexate, and Advair. Should I be concerned? I do have a call into my doctor. Anything that will alleviate the pain so I can at least concentrate? Thank you!

Quick answer: the increased pain with breathing, coughing, and discomfort when you talk, laugh, cry is very likely related to the sarcoidosis.

Detailed answer: the symptoms you are describing are very typical for sarcoidosis affecting the lung. The medicines that you are taking, prednisone, methotrexate and advair, are "the right stuff" - standard therapy. Your doctor may be able to change your doses, or may want to add another medication, and they may want to check a chest x-ray and see you to do some breathing tests before they make any changes.

I am very glad to hear that you have a call into your doctor.

You can take acetaminophen (Tylenol) for the pain while you are waiting for your doctor, but I think your doctor is going to want to help you feel more able to talk and laugh, as well as concentrate.

I hope I have answered your question, and I very much hope that you are able to contact your physician and get feeling better very soon. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help.
