What Causes Breathlessness And Dry Cough At Night?

Hi, I have been experiencing difficulty breathing, solely at night though, through-out the day there has been no indication of problems with my lungs, but at around 9:30pm most nights for the past 2 weeks I ve been getting raspy, with a dry cough that feels like I should spit up phlegm but none comes up. What could be causing this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thanks for writing.

I can understand your concern and would try to help you in the best way possible. Your problems may be due to allergic bronchitic, COPD or interstitial lung disorders. I need a to know a few more details including your smoking history, your occupation, any family history of same problems or any other medical conditions to get a better picture of your problems.

I suggest you consult a doctor who would obtain a complete history and physical examination including an investigative workup to get to a diagnosis.

In the mean while i suggest you begin some breathing exercises and steam inhalations to help with you cough.
I find this answer helpful
