Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am sedentary, obese, 72 years old. I sleep comfortably in a recliner -- feet up, back at a 45-degree angle. I get a feeling of breathlessness when I sleep. It s not shortness of breath, per se. I have good lung capacity, but I do have hypertension (treated with medication) and moderately high cholesterol (well managed with medication). What s going on? Thank you. Barbara Ettorre

What Causes Breathlessness While Lying Down?
Hello, As per your description, it seems like you are having a clinical condition called orthophospnoea. We have to rule out possible cardiac causes also. Consult a cardiologist and get evaluated. A detailed evaluation is required including an echo test to find out the exact cause of your symptoms. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
