Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 51 female,no children, consider myself to be healthy! I still have periods every other month,I have not had pap smear in a few yrs... I m not sure if I m going through menopause yet, but my concern is could it be colon problems? I have for about a year now constantly have severe bowel movements at least once everyday!! Its not painful,a little bright red blood from rectom, and sometimes dark color!! I have no insurance yet, should I of course get a colonausty? Or a pap smear first?
You may want to consider a colonoscopy first since you are having bright red blood with your bowel movements.
Blood in the stool maybe due to different possible causes including: (1) hemorrhoids (2) diverticular disease (3) polyps in the colon which may be NON cancerous or cancerous
The colonoscopy would be able to determine the likely cause.
I hope this helps
