What Causes Bright Red Colored Stool?

I have been passing stools with bright red blood coming out for the last 3 days. This has happened in the past but has gone away and I did go to doctor who advised colonoscopy. Being I am 46 years old my insurance doesn t cover this so I ignored like an idiot...what could be the causes. I don t have any pain but sometimes stomach discomfort. Please advise and thank you.

Hello,

as you described you are problem concern that passing stools with bright red blood coming out for the last 3 days.

This often means that the bleeding is from the anus or just inside. This can be caused by hemorrhoids or anal fissures. It can also be caused by more serious problems like cancer and polyps

first need to do anus examination[DRE] and proctoscope to rule out conditions any associated problems.

if suspect with symptoms like weight loss and passing stools and

if hemorrhoids or anal fissure can be treated accordingly and problem still persists then go for next ivestigations and consult you are surgeon as soon as possible.
