What Causes Bright White Flashes In The Lateral Side Of My Left Eye

3 days ago I was walking at night and noticed very bright white flashes when I glanced to the left. At first I thought I was getting this affect in the lateral side of my left eye only but I seemed to be getting it in the medial side of my right eye as well when I would glance to the left. In the right eye the flashes were not nearly as bright. Rubbing my eyes produced the same affect. This symptoms gradually faded until today, 3 days later, I can t reproduce it. I am a 54 year old male nearsighted since age 17. I have had minor floaters in my field of vision for about 20 years that, if they have worsened, have worsened very slightly. I don t usually notice them unless I really make an effort. What is going on with these flashes and does it mean anything that they ve gone away?

Ophthalmologist 's  Response
Hello,

Please get a retina checkup done dear you need it and that too urgent as this could be a detachment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
