What Causes Brittle Nails, Weight Gain, Low Red Cell Distribution, Tsh 0.03?

My TSH is 0.03. My endocrenologist retired and there are none in my area. He told me I was sub clinical while he was treating me. My family doctor s advise was to repeat the bloodwork in six weeks. My nails are brittle, I am tired much of the time, I am gaining weight, and my red cell distribution is below low average . Should I look for another doctor or just start taking my medication again?

Hello,
I can understand your query. Before giving you advices rather to start the treatment or not I would prefer to have some more information as:

-What is your actual age?
-What is the etiology of hyperthyroidism, is it Graves' disease or nodular goiter?
-How long did you get the treatment before?
-Did you check only TSH? If yes you need FT4 and FT3 to be repeated too.

If you were a patient in my clinic I would recommend you an ultrasound of the thyroid gland and the titter of the antibodies (Antireceptor antibodies).

I am opened for further suggestions when you will have some more results.
Wishing you good health.
