What Causes Brittle Nails?

Hi Doctor! I just want to know what are the causes and underlying reasons of a fingernail growing out with a split. I have a prominent line starting at the base of my thumbnail, and when the nail grows out it begins to split in different directions. Thank You for your help, from Kevin.

Hello dear
Understand your concern.
Following are the causes of brittle nail:
1. Vitamin deficiency mainly B complex-B7, B6
2. Iron deficiency
3. Sign of aging
4. Frequent exposure to water: like swimming and frequent washing, it aggravate in winter
5. Hypothyroid

So please do following test
Thyroid profile
CBC
Serum iron, Vitamin B complex level
Help to diagnose above disease
Advice:
Avoid frequent washing
Wear gloves
Vitamin B7 tablet 1 mg orally also help ful

So go for test that help in diagnosis and take treatment according to that
