What Causes Brown Color Saliva Post Radical Nephrectomy?

Hello doctor!!am phani raj from India.my grandmother aged 70years was recently diagnosed as renal cell carcinoma stage3 of left kidney,and she underwent radical nephrectomy 5days back n now she is having coffe colured saliva.may i know the cause for coffe colured saliuva in this case??

Hello,

The coffee colored saliva could be related to upper airway irritation due to intubation during surgery. If her situation persists, an infection should be suspected. In such case a saliva bacterial culture may be needed. In the meantime, I recommend using an oral spray anti-bacterial.
