What Causes Brown Discharge After A Pap Smear Test?

I had a pap smear done on Tuesday and when I woke up Wednesday, I had traces of brown discharge. The amount and frequency has increased over the last 4 days. My last period ended only a few days before my pap. I have been on both control for 4 years. Could this discharge be left over from my period and the exam triggered it? Should I contact my doctor, wait it out, or take the placebos and hope that sets it straight?

Hi,

Pap smear can be helpful. Needs gynecological examination can be needed if it's first time with you or increased amount. Brown discharge is old blood that normally comes in starting or end of menses.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sunny Madar, General & Family Physician
