Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Brown Discharge After Delaying Intake Of Birth Control Pill?
21 y.o. female, on birth control for 3 years. Last month took a pill 10 hours late. A day later had brown (poop colored) discharge stopped. Two days later started a period that lasted for 2 weeks. New month took a pill 12 hours late. Same thing happened again. what is wrong?
* As per my clinical experience, the brown discharge per vagina indicates possible bacterial or fungal infection of the urinary bug rather than stopping of the birth control pill.
Following would be useful information for your case:
- vaginal hygiene care
- avoid prolong use of same tampons
- prescription of antibiotic as penicillin or beta lactamase inhibitor metronidazole for anaerobic coverage
- local application of betamethasone cream
- sexual abstinence till complete recovery
- discuss need of any swab culture report of vaginal secretions during your planned visit to your doc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
