What Causes Brown Discoloration On The Lips After Quitting Smoking?

I quit smoking cigarettes a little over 5 months ago. Ever since then, I wake up with a film of brown junk on my lips. Is this my lungs or esophagus clearing out the tar? I still have phlegm that I have to clear in my lungs as well. How long should I expect this to last? Thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I don't think this is related to quiting smoking. It may be related to possibly gastroesophageal reflux that can make stomach fluids to come back to mouth especially during the night.

Try to sleep with your head elevated with pillows. Eat 3-4 hours before bed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
