What Causes Brown Menstrual Period While On Loestrin Birth Control?

Hi, I am on birth control (Loestrin 24 Fe) and have been for almost a year. I have not had sex for over a month. I have developed a brownish discharged period for the second month on a row. I am showing no other side effects except that my period has been a day later than normal both times. What does this mean?
