What Causes Brown Spotting When Suffering From PCOS?

Hi, I am 32 year old have thyroid problem with PCOS. TTC from past 1 year and doctor has prescribed to take folic acid, thryonorm 50 mcg ,2 glycomet tab (500 mg) every day, cabergoline 0.5 mg 1/2 tablet every week. Wait for 40 days take pregnancy test and if negative prescribed duphaston 10 mcg. I consumed the tablet for 5 days and got my periods on 8th day. I saw brown spotting for the first day and next day red period which did not last more than 2 days. Can I be pregnant?

Hello,
The fact that you had an induced bleeding with hormones indicates that you are not pregnant as a menstrual cycle cannot be induced during pregnancy with hormone therapy. Brown spotting is usually seen with induced bleeds wherein the endometrial preparation may not be adequate and also anovulatory. Yet, if you have any doubt, you can go for the estimation of the serum beta-hCG titres to clarify the situation. Please maintain a healthy weight, healthy diet and regular exercise. Hope this helps.
