What Causes Brown To Black Vaginal Discharge After Stopping Depo Shot?

I have had dark brown to black discharge during the time I was supposed to receive my period. I took a pregnancy test twice it was negative both times. I am five days passed my normal cycle and I am having brown discharge again. I did have depo shot and missed it for the month of February and never went back to receive another shot again. Should i go to the doctors or wait it out.

Hello,

You can wait for a few days, it could be a bit of old blood. Your uterus lining may not be developing fully so you are spotting, wait for the period to come. Do not douche. You can no longer rely on Depo to give you any protection after the due date of your next shot. If you had been having unprotected sex, then pregnancy is a possibility.

If you had unprotected sex and you experience symptoms like cramping , bloating , feeling nausea, peeing more often and breast changes then you should get clinically examined by a gynecologist, get per vaginal examination done to detect bulky uterus. Your treating Gynae will order a repeat pregnancy test and USG of uterus and fallopian tube to confirm pregnancy and the well being of the fetus. You will be accordingly managed.
