What Causes Brown Vaginal Bleeding While On Oral Contraceptives?

I am 22 years old and been on oral contraceptives for 7 months now. For the first time instead of regular blood I noticed brown blood and it lasted only on the first day of my expected period date. I have been regular with my oc and I don t have any other symptoms of pregnancy. Could I be pregnant?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern. Brown vaginal discharge does not state that you could be pregnant. It happens usually when there is retention of blood or tissues for some time and then passed outside. Such discharge happening occasionally, especially while you are on contraceptives and should not cause much worry. If this happens more frequently, then you need clinical evaluation and you need to consult Gynecologist for appropriate management.

Hope the information provided would be helpful. Let me know if I can assist you further.

All the best.

Regards,
