Hello,

Brown discharge during early pregnancy is indicative of irritation to the cervix. It commonly occurs due to sex, infection or vaginal check up by your gynecologist, placenta previa, addictions (smoking, alcohol abuse, etc). You are suggested to avoid sex. Avoid tampons, use pads when you bleed, stay in bed rest, do not do any heavy work, stay away from any tension, stress and anxiety.

Get clinically examined by your gynecologist, she will recommend USG (Uterus) for the well being of the fetus. You may require intravenous support with antibiotics and injections to stop bleeding. You may require to do STD tests to rule out infection by chlamydia, gonorrhea etc. Since you had miscarriage 5 months ago, you should not delay, get examined and managed at the earliest.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
