Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Plan B is an
emergency contraceptive pill. It needs to be taken within 72 hours of
unprotected intercourse. Earlier it is taken, the protection seems to be better.
What you have done in the earlier episode seems to be right.
The pill would protect from
pregnancy by causing withdrawal bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of intake of the pills. Sometimes brownish discharge could occur few days before the actual bleeding takes place.
The protection of the pill is for single time only. You need to take precautions like use of condom or spermicides in case you have intercourse until the
breakthrough bleeding occurs.
In case you have unprotected intercourse again after taking a pill after 24 hours, it is recommended that you need to take another pill and wait until withdrawal bleeding occurs.
In any case, if the bleeding does not happen by 3 weeks, you need to seek medical attention immediately as there are chances that you could be pregnant, as the failure rate of use of such pills is about 10 to 15%.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
