What Causes Brown Vaginal Discharge When On Birth Control Pills?

I am on birth control. But me and my boyfriend have been having unprotected sex. I had my period two weeks ago. Yesterday I noticed a brown discharge and today I have bleeding with slight cramps, nothing close to as bad as they normally are. And I have been having back pain for a couple days now. I've been crazy tired too. Could I be pregnant?

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi,

No. I think that you are not pregnant. I think that this brown discharge can be a effect of birth control pills or there can be menstrual blood mixed with mucus. Also, I would suggest you to have a thyroid profile test done as thyroid abnormality can cause this condition. Start a course of antispasmodic drotaverine tablets for your pain.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
