What Causes Brown Vaginal Spotting During Pregnancy?

Hi, I am 5 1/2 weeks pregnant and when I mentioned that i spotted brown spotting (just a drop for 2 days) then my gyn suggested to take susten 200 orally. But when i read it on the internet, the spotting is quite normal. So I am wondering is it really necessary for me to take Susten 200 ? If yes, then how long is it recommended? Are there are any side effect of taking this pill orally ? The scan results were quite normal though. Please respond.

I suggest you rule out the most common causes by getting done a physical examination, thyroid profile to rule out thyroid abnormalities, ultrasound to know the pregnancy status.

Nothing to worry. Once the cause is treated it will subside. Early pregnancy bleeding is mostly due to deficiency of hormone progesterone which supports the maintenance /development of the fetus.

About 20-25% of women have vaginal bleeding in early pregnancy. Half of them continue their pregnancy and delivery normally.

Since the pain has reduced now in all probability you will continue with the pregnancy. Consult obstetrician and take progesterone to support pregnancy.

Don't think about miscarriage. If the pain/bleeding increases you need to go to the ER.

If you were to have a D&C, if it is done gently it will not complicate your incompetent cervix. It does not lessen your chances of successfully trying again.
