I had a light and late November period with brown spotting only (on nov. 15 & 16th). Then from Wednesday, Nov. 26 to Dec. 7, i had light brown spotting; once or twice each day. Two (only) of those spotting had very slight pink with the brown. Sometimes i did not see this old blood until i wiped after peeing. Now, brown light spotting started again during December period time. Begining yesterday, wednesday(dec 10). I am 24 and married and on birth control pills. We have sex regulary about 2 to 3 times a week. We do not use any other birth control other than the pill. I have also taken a home pregnancy test this morning with my first pee. What could be the possibilities of this brown spotting and random in the middle of month (between periods), week and half spotting? Thank you for your time and consideration!
General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. * The scanty & prolonged spotting at menstruation time you have can be explained as- - It is due to the contraceptive you are using. specially progesteron only contraceptives give effect of scanty/ no / irregular menses . * the spotting in between two periods can be caused by- - Irregularity in taking the pills. Either missing a pill/ not taking pill at the same time of day regularly- can cause such type of spotting. - some times problems like cervical irrosion/ cervical polyp,/ fibroiduterus can lead to it. * This needs a through internal check up by a gynecologist & investigations to exclude/diagnose it followed by specific treatment as per need. Thanks.
