What Causes Brown Vaginal Spotting?

So since Saturday, i have been spotting .. A little brown & a little blood .. I take the pill form of birth control & forgot to take 2 pills prior to saturday. So i figured i might have a little breakthrough bleeding .. It went away saturday night & came back sunday morning, when i took a shower sunday it was burning from the water hitting it .. Which i thought was strange, and only burned one time when i pee d .. Im only 17 years old, i have not had sex, still have my virginity. But i have no idea what it could be other than a UTI.. If you think it could be something else, PLEASE let me know! Thank you in advance!!!!

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Well, the cause of the yellowish or brown vaginal discharge is a common and usually harmless issue.

Occasional spotting between periods might have this appearance and can be normal, especially if you're taking low-dose birth control pills. So in most cases, this does not sign of disease.

If it is, then usually this indicates bacterial vaginosis, STD or polycystic ovarian syndrome. Less common, some other hormonal disorders may be present.

In some cases, however, a yellow or brown vaginal discharge could indicate a serious problem.

Although brown and yellow vaginal discharge often does not indicate a serious problem, it should not be ignored if it persists, recurs or is accompanied by other symptoms and then you should see a gynecologist for further work up.

In some cases, a yellow or brown vaginal discharge could indicate a serious problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
