What Causes Brownish Discharge After Two Years Being On The Rod?

I ve been on the rod for nearly 2 years now, I haven t had a period at all or any bleeding for that matter now all of a sudden my body s decided it s going to start bleeding but it s not red blood it s a brown so I assume old blood. I m just wondering if the rod is still working or if it s time to take it out?

Hi.

I've gone through your query. I can understand your anxiety.

Usually following  hormonal IUD insertion people might experience symptoms like cramping & on & off bleeding /spotting (brownish discharge). These symptoms will settle within 6months.

In your case, brownish discharge after 2yrs might be a complication sometimes. I advice you to,
- look for the expiry of the effective lifespan of the device
- consult your gynaecologist for a USG pelvis in order to locate if there is any pathology & also for further assistance.
-  Also can take a course of depot medroxyprogesterone acetate or cyclic progestins d oral estrogens as per your doctor guidance, till the spotting stops.
