What Causes Brownish Discharge During Menstruation?

I have regular heavy periods but this month as well as last month my period is brown and pasty. It is not as heavy and the color is just off. I have 5 children and always had regular cycles every 26 days without fail. I am just concerned because along with the discharge I feel some soreness in my abdomen. Should I be concerned?

I have gone through your query. If you are having unusual color change in menstrual discharge then it is better to undergo a pelvic examination by gynecologist. A swab also should be done to rule out infection. It can be due to variation in hormones or pelvic inflammatory disease. Ultrasound examination will be needed in case of positive signs. In case of infection proper antibiotic therapy will benefit you.
