What Causes Brownish Liquid Discharge From Nipples?

I am a post menopausal woman that has a sticky clearish, brownish liquid that leaks out of nipple area if pushed on or pressure applied, I was tested many years ago for brain tumor when my Dr. at time saw liquid... but has started to appear yet again but now also having behaviour problems (get extremely mad fast for stupid reasons now) basically my personality has changed from over understanding. to quick tempered . and don t like to be near people anylonger because get frustated and have no patience for others .(again not a normal trait for me) any way this nipple leakage and personality change has got me worried . Could this be brain tumor as previous dr. felt (pre personality change) ??

Hello,

Nipples discharge is usually benign and commonly. It may be a sign of certain hormonal or infectious issues.

When you often palpate nipples, it stimulates hormones and can indicate breast discharge. Moreover, when you often check your nipples, it may cause some inflammation and give soreness in it.

To ease your mind and to make sure no cancer, cyst or abscess in the sore breast is present, please have an ultrasound of this breast done.

If you have a fever, inflammation can be the reason. If you have constipation, tiredness, hypothyroidism should be considered and TSH checked.

If the discharge will be still present, you should have prolactin level checked which is a common cause of this.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
