What Causes Brownish Vaginal Discharge After Taking Postinor 2?
Hi Doctor, I had my period on the 4th of March and I took postinor 2 on the 13th of March, I started experiencing dark brown discharge on the 23th for almost 2 weeks. The brown discharge is started again on the 22nd of April and on the 23rd of April I had a little brown discharge, then I sex and it was painful, immediately after, I started bleeding with a bit of clot. Should I get a pregnancy test?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Postinor 2 is an emergency contraceptive pill. It needs to be taken within 72 hours after an unprotected intercourse. Earlier it is taken, protection seems to be better. It prevents pregnancy from happening by causing breakthrough bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of its intake. In the meantime, some of the symptoms like vaginal discharge and intermittent spotting could be considered as normal. In case bleeding in the form of periods does not happen by 3 weeks, you need to take urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention immediately. The failure rate with use of such pills is 10 to 15%. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
