What Causes Bruise And Swelling In The Foot Post An Injury?

I hurt my foot six days ago. I went to the er and had x rays done and they said there wasn t anything broken and that bit was a sprained foot. Gave me a note to be off work Monday ( I m a cna/cmt and work as a restorative aide) went to work on Tuesday with a lot of pain in my foot still. When I got home I noticed a little bit of bruising and some swelling that wasn t there at first. The bruising and swelling has gotten worse as the week has gone on and the pain has me to where I still can t walk on it right. My question is when should I have it looked at again?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi..u have not broken bone but therw may crushing of tissue at injury site.
post injury swelling and pain occur because tissue injury causes minor bleeding and edema surrounding area.so brownish to blackish discolouration occur.
and as you go on your work any movement causes further damage and edema
thats why rest is must in such condition.
dont worry as u have only tissue injury..it will resolve in few days...
keep rest to affected area..and restrict movement of injured site..
