What Causes Bruise Like Discoloration In Knuckles?

I have three knuckles that have turned very dark brown. About 6 months ago I had scraped these knuckles fairly badly and there is some scarring, but just in the past two weeks they have turned dark brown. They do not hurt at all, but are very noticeably bruised-looking.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The cause is self-explanatory. Excessive rubbing is an injury and will heal as per the laws governing the body's healing system. There might be development of a keloid like skin reaction thus the change in the color over knuckles. I would advise you the following:
* First of all stop anything that causes rubbing over the affected area as this will enhance the sighs and symptoms.
* Local softening liniments. Take multivitamins, mineral and Lycopene as antioxidant.
* Consult a Dermatologist as and when required.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
