What Causes Bruise Like Pain In The Inner Arm Above Elbow?

For the last 2 weeks or so, I ve been having a bruise like pain in the inner part of my left arm about 2 inches above my elbow. I felt sore with little to no swelling but it was painful to the touch. Also if I had to pick up something heavy it would hurt. When I woke up this morning noticed I had slept with my left arm above my head and that the pain from my arm was almost gone but now I had that same pain right in the center of my armpit. I m extremely worried about what it might be. I scared that it could clot but I m only 23, is that even possible?

Hi,

From your description, it is likely that you had a small superficial infection there on inner part of your lower arm (like a boil / folliculitis) that has resolved its own, but caused enlargement of draining lymph node in the axilla, causing pain there.

This type of presentation is not at all expected with blood clot- need not worry about that.

As the swelling and pain in arm has gone, you can just take paracetamol tablets three times a day(ibuprofen if pain is significant) after food for 3 days to get rid of pain in axilla. If no relief by then, or issue comes back down the arm, kindly see your doctor for detailed examination and probable need of antibiotics too.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam T. K., Pediatrician
