What Causes Bruise On The Back And Burning Sensation Underneath The Skin?

Hi, My mother, 43 years old, has unexplained semi-like bruise on her back near her shoulder. It started as a little spot and started spreading overtime (two years). She describes it gives her an itchy and a burning sensation underneath her skin. When she scratches it it doesn t go away. She does not have any kind of skin problems on the surface, such as dryness or peeling skin. What is your diagnoses?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The long term bruise with burning sensation may be predictive of underlying medical problem. The most common of all would be reactivation of herpes zoster infection and affecting particular dermatome of the nerve distribution.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
