What Causes Bruise On The Roof Of The Mouth After Using Palatal Expander?

My daughter has a mouth expander and on the roof of her mouth there is a purple bruise which seems to be spreading out. Is this something to be alarmed about? The orthodontists took x-rays. But I haven't heard from them because they are on vacation this week.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

As per your complain bruise after using palatal expander can be due to injury caused by metal.portion that much be touching directly the mucosa of the palate..

Other reason can be excessive pressure being implicated over the mucosa due to the forces that the expander must be putting over the bone and mucosa..

Another cause can be ruptured blood vessel under the mucosa of the palate....

Although it does not seems to be alarming but still a proper consultation with Orthodontist and thorough evaluation has to be done and then only after proper adjustment of the expander it has to be replaced..

Hope this ..

Regards..
