Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi my mom dropped a heavy metal door on her foot at work and it began to bruise and swell immediately. this was almost a week ago. the doctors did xrays and says there is nothing broke, fractured or no popped blood vessels. what could be the reason for her foot to still be swollen and black and blue? All they gave her was a special shoe.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain it is a good finding that your mother's bone is not broken and the swollen foot and bruising is due to soft tissue injury leading to inflammation of soft tissues leading to accumulation of inflammatory fluids and cells and there is rupture of minor blood vessels and blood gets accumulated in the soft tissues leading to bruising.. I would suggest you to give her tylenol or Ibuprofen for pain. Apply a numbing gel over the swollen area and also apply a heparin gel for faster fading of bruise.. You can do alternate warm and cool compresses over the swelling for faster resolution.. Elevate your leg while lying down..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
