What Causes Bruised And Swollen Temple After An Injury?

My 4 year old hit her head on the arm of the couch. She hit directly to the side of her eye, i think it s the temple. It swelled and bruised right away, as in within seconds. Is this bad? It wasn t a hard hit relative to other head injuries she has had! The rapid bruising and location is concerning me

Hi there,
thank you for choosing healthmagic,
as your daughter fell down and got a hit on the temple, so bleeding under the skin which appears as bruise is fairly obvious, It will be classified bad only if your daughter shows any one or more of the following signs within 24 hours of trauma

1. Vomiting
2. Seizures/fits
3. numbness
4. Difficulty in maintaining gait
5. Vision problems
6. Increasing severity of headache
7. Sudden behavioural changes.

if you notice any of the above signs in your daughter please bring her to ER i.e. Emergency room of a hospital for detailed evaluation.

If she is fine and has no such symptoms, then stay relaxed, it is a small bleed not harmful and will go away on its own.

Kind Regards
Dr Fouzia
