Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a swollen foot for three months. Pain and swelling now left in the ankle joint, and bottom of foot from the middle to ankle feels like stone bruising, very painful. Lumps seem to move around a bit on the base of foot. I have had an MRI which showed up slight cellulitis, but no external redness showed. I have had cortisone last Monday into the top of the ankle joint, which has taken the heat out of the ankle, and I am taking 30mg Prednisone by tablet form for two weeks and then dropping to 20mg for 6 weeks, but stone bruising still there and foot seems just as bad as before the cortisone. Thanks Paul YYYY@YYYY
Hello and welcome to HCM, The cause of swelling and bruising of left ankle has been shown by the MRI to be due to cellulitis. Cellulitis is infection and inflammation of the subcutaneous tissue. The condition needs to be treated with antibiotics. However, you have prescribed steroids by your doctor. Thus, there appears to be a condition which will respond to steroids. Steroids are usually prescribed in autoimmune disorders. It would be more informative if you could provide your complete clinical details.
Thanks and take care DR Shailja Puri
