What Causes Bruising On The Elbows While On Xarelto?
I am a 66 yr. old female. Approximately six months ago my cardiac electrophysiologist prescribed a medication Xarelto, an anti-coagulant as I suffer with atrial defibrelation. However, I have noticed that since I have been taking this medication that I have bruising on my elbows. Presently, I have had a bruised left elbow for over 3 days. It is painful and feels warm to the touch. Should I seek medical treatment as my elbow is still bruised and painful. What could be the cause?
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Sorry to hear you are suffering fro AFib.Xarelto is a good anticoagulant that may be used to prevent blood clots/ischemia linked with this medical condition. However, among its side effects, blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin have been described. The symptoms you present may be as a result of this drug. It may as well not be due to this drug as local elbow skin infections/irritation may give such symptoms. If a side effect of xarelto, it may not be limited to elbow only.I will suggest you see the Doctor for evaluation.A pain drug like ibuprofen and simple antiseptic dressing of bruise may help. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
