What Causes Brusing In The Tailbone After An Injury?

My mom slipped and went down on the stair landing hard. She got up by herself, she is walking with no problem and her tailbone doesn t hurt if you press on it. My concern is the black/blue on her rear end...it is awful looking. She does take a blood thinner. She is ok other than that terrible looking bruise.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It could be a small hematoma or contusion. It is quite common after blunt trauma. Nothing much to worry as it will settle by itself without any definite treatment. You can apply icepacks for faster recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
