What Causes Bubbles In Urine?

I am stumped and so are two MDs. About a month ago I soaked in a hot tub that appeared to be clean and well chlorinated. Three days later I had an itching urethra and urine with large bubbles in it. I went to my urologist and he thought it was likely Trich. A dip test of my urine showed no bacteria. He prescribed Flagyl and I took it as prescribed. I felt better and the symptoms almost disappeared. About four days after ceasing the drug the symptoms returned. I was traveling and went to Planned Parenthood. They did a dip test and it showed no bacteria. They sent a urine sample to the lap and it showed clear of bacteria and clear of Trich. PP gave me 2 grams of Flagyl and I took it. Same result, it knocked whatever this is down but not out. Symptoms have all returned. Any suggestions would be welcome. The bubbles in my urine are aggressively attached to one another like something is fermenting.

Hello,

Some bubbles in the urine are normal. HOWEVER, anything that thickens urine will cause increased bubbles. PROTEIN or FAT is the most notorious.

It's hard for fat to get into urine and only occurs with acute, severe kidney injury--you'd likely see blood.

Proteinuria is common with diabetes or kidney injury and must be screened for.

There are both the normal proteins of the blood getting in and pre-albumin which should be specifically tested for.

You wouldn't see blood. There are white cells in urine from infection but also from inflammation which might not be due to germs, but from a structural abnormality.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
