What Causes Bump In The Middle Of The Chest?

Hello, there is a 2 inch wide, five inch long bump going down my chest. It is in the middle of my chest, it goes from the lower part of my upper chest to my bellybutton, its like a thick long bump. It looks like a thick tube, it is not firm, but somewhat soft. Could this be cancerous? I just discovered it today. Thanks.

I can understand your concern.
By your history and description, possibility of umbilical hernia or soft tissue swelling like lipoma is more. Possibility of cancer is less.
The site you are mentioning is common place for hernia. Hernia is protrusion of bowel loops through abdominal muscle wall. It is commonly seen in smokers and in all aged people.
Another possibility is lipoma. Lipoma is fat containing soft tissue swelling.
So better to get done ultrasound examination of swelling.
If it is hernia then surgical correction of muscle defect is needed.
If it is lipoma then surgical removal of lipoma is needed.
So in both case surgical intervention is required.
So better to first diagnose the cause of this swelling and than start appropriate treatment.
