What Causes Bump On Neck Next To Scar After Chiari Decompression Surgery?
Hello, I had a marble size bump on my neck & it had a little black dot in it. I noticed it right next to my scar after my chiari decompression surgery and 2.5 years later it has almost tripled in size, has many black dots & is very painful. Is this just a simple cyst or Boyle or does it have to do with my chiari decompression? Thank you very much
The bump you have is the sebaceous cyst. Sebaceous cyst formed due to blockage of the duct of the sebaceous gland which produces an oily substance called sebum present in the skin. The blockage may be due trauma either accidental or surgical. It is non cancerous fluid filled cyst.
It contains white keratin flakes which usually forms the skin. Smaller cysts are not painful. But larger ones which are more than five centimetre will be painful. Sometimes, a horn may be formed from the fluid discharged from the cyst. Treatment involves surgical excision of the cyst which is for cosmetic and for comfort.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
