For about 4 years I have had these bumps on my arms and thighs that occurred on and off. The bumps start off looking something like an enlarged pimple (no puss), then that one bump splits/spreads and becomes multiple bumps. It sometimes briefly resembles ringworm. I used to get them the exact week before my menstrual cycle, so naturally I assumed it was some sort of pms symptom. When I became sexually active I got on birth control, and the bumps became less predictable.I have been to the dermatologist three times, and all they did was prescribe me a cream called triamcinolone acetonide, which helps the itch but does not make the bumps go away, they eventually go away on there own. The dermatologist never diagnosed me, he would just prescribe the cream and tell me to make a follow-up appointment, but I never did because I am a college student and I can’t afford to constantly pay money for a dermatology visit and the issue not be resolved. So I decided to go to a walk-in clinic, and the doctor diagnosed me with Molluscum Contagioscum, prescribed to me the same cream as the dermatologist did, and told me I would grow out of it and there was nothing I could do.I don’t mean to be so skeptical, but I have researched this condition on the internet and some things just don’t match up. Firstly, the bumps arrived when I was around 15 years old and I am now 19. From what I have read, molluscum contagioscum occurs predominantly in young children and usually goes away after at most about 18 months. I have had these bumps monthly for 4 years!I’m seriously sick of these bumps and I can’t afford to keep going back to the doctor. I have attached pictures (sorry if you find it gross) of these bumps and I just want to know do you think it looks like molluscum contagiosum? Or was I maybe misdiagnosed? If so, what could it be?
