What Causes Burning And Stinging Sensation In Penis After Having A TURP?
26 days ago I had a TURP which was a success according to the doctor and not as bad as they thought. However, whenever I wee at the end I get a burning/ stinging sensation which lasts for 5 minutes, then I have a very mild sensation of burning/ stinging all the time at the base of my penis, plus it feels like my anus is itching inside.My first wee of the day is the worst with signs of blood and a small wee also hurts the most. I am drinking between 2 and 3 litres a day, is this normal following a TURP procedure.

So to be direct your symptoms and concerns are completely normal for a TURP procedure performed almost 4 weeks ago. In a TURP they essentially remove part of the prostate that is compressing and narrowing the urethra. This leaves behind in the short term scar tissue that is very sensitive and inflamed. A person’s urine can vary regarding how acidic or basic it is and often times if you are consuming acidic foods the urine will likely also be similarly acidic. This can irritate the inflamed are even more and create substantial discomfort. Regarding the itchiness in your anal region, the prostate is located very close to the rectum and shares similar nerves for pain and pressure.
When the procedure is completed the tender area of the prostate activated these nerves and causes some degree of miscommunication in the sensation that reaches your brain. Your brain interprets the pain in the prostate as coming from the rectum and this why you perceive itchiness. Please rest assured though these are common effects of the procedure and are shared by many men who have it done. Continue to drink the volume of fluids you currently are as this will bring the urine acid content back to a more reasonable level.
