What Causes Burning Ankles While Walking Short Distances?

Hello, i have a problem while walking short distances, i was approximately 1/4 mile from the bus station in town to my workplace and even during this small distance if i dont stop along the way my ankles burn quite intensely and it can take quite a while to go away, i was wondering what might be causing this, how to reduce and even prevent this from happening.
