What Causes Burning In Foot Radiating To The Ankle Bone Toward Toe?
burning in the right foot from right below the ankle bone along the side toward the big toe. Not constantly, but when flares, it s as if electric shock happened. lasts for several day at a time and then goes away. not swollen, bruised, sensitive to touch, heat helps some. worse when sitting or laying down (at night). can walk and stand. xrays show no arthritis; orthos don t have a clue. does not feel like tendonitis; any help??
Burning in foot radiating to the ankle bone towards toe is indicative of nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy). Sometimes, skin infection causes temporarily burning or inflamed feet. Nerve damage is also caused by diabetes, exposure to toxins and alcohol use.
Certain B vitamin deficiencies or HIV infection may also cause similar symptoms. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP, get all investigations, blood tests, imaging tests and biopsy and nerve conduction tests done. You will be treated accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
