What Causes Burning In Upper Abdomen?

Hi there. I have had a sour stomach and slight burning in my upper abdomen on and off for the past week. The "aches" have lasted as long as 2 hours but have decreased in the number of occurrences. The severity has also subsided. I've been trying to eat whole grain breads and bananas in order to absorb any acidity. I've been taking Tums and Zantac. My stool has been mostly small pellets and there is some yellow mucus as well. Just to note, I have been eating very natural and healthy since the beginning of October and then had junk food during Thanksgiving. Additionally, I had a tablespoon of raw cookie dough. My question is do you think this will pass or should I make an appointment to see my doctor?

Hello
The symptoms as you mentioned in the query may be due to these reasons , these include :
1 Hyper acidity or gastritis .
These measures may be useful for you. Try raising the head of your bed about 4 inches with blocks. It also might help to avoid eating or drinking for 2-3 hours before you lie down. To help control stomach acid one should not drink alcohol or drinks with caffeine in them or eat chocolates or pizza or burger or spicy or greasy foods .
As you are taking zantac and tums , take these till complete relief .
Also take some antacid which contains oxetacaine.
2 Over eating is the another most common cause of such symptoms , so be careful.
3 Tension or anxiety are another most common causes of such symptoms ,so aware about also.
In my opinion , do these measures and you will get relief.
If still pain and sore stomach present even after 15 days then consult a gastro-enterologist and get his opinion.
Good luck.
