What Causes Burning Pain On The Outside Of The Achilles Tendon?

I have a burning pain on the outside of the achilles tendon of my left foot. I am obese, and I had severe pain in the achilles tendon itself because of the stairs at work, but that pain disappeared suddenly and was replaced with this burning pain beside the tendon.
