What Causes Burning Sensation After Applying Freeze-Away On Toe Wart?
I think I was a bit overaggressive in using Dr. Scholl's Freeze-Away on a toe wart. Used it twice and left it on for a bit over a minute each time. Burns a bit now and it's been over 5 hours since application. Could I get gangrene from doing something like this? It was only applied to the wart. thanks
Hello, Welcome to healthcare magic. The over- the- counter wart removal preparations contain caustics which could cause severe burning sensation lasting for hours. It will not cause gangrene or any impaired blood supply. It could cause blistering of the affected due to the caustic action. The blister may even turn black as the skin is dead. You could apply an antibiotic cream containing 2% mupirocin or even Betadine twice a day to prevent the lesion from getting infected. In case the burning pain persists, you can take oral paracetamol/ acetaminophen for pain relief. Hope this helps you. Take care.
