What Causes Burning Sensation And Pain During Urination?
I think I have a UTI. Since Saturday night I have experienced burning, painful urination, urgency even when my bladder is empty, and discomfort in my groin. On Sunday I had blood in my urine but that has stopped. Since this amount of time has elapsed and I m doing my best to drink lots of water, should I see my doctor and possibly start antibiotics or try to wait it out. Sometimes it seems to nearly be gone but then my symproms return.
I think that it is time to take some antibiotics. I do agree that your symptoms sound a lot like a urinary infection, which will be confirmed with a quick dip test at your doctor's office. The longest I would advise anyone to wait it out with such symptoms is a day or two. If the increased fluids hasn't helped, then it is unlikely to improve further. Waiting longer would increase the risk of the infection going up into the kidneys, which is a lot more serious.
To prevent repeat urine infections in the future, make sure you drink enough water regularly, at least 2 litres in a day if you have no other health problems. Another important thing is to never hold in your urine, if you feel the urge you should go as soon as possible. This continuous flushing discourages any bacteria inside from growing into a full blown infection.
Hope this helps, and get well soon.
Regards, Dr. Teh
