What Causes Burning Sensation And Patches On Tongue?

HI
I developed bare patches on my tongue around 4 years ago after I underwent sleeve gastrectomy obesity surgery. I lost around 40 kg in 5 years. The tongue patches change place and size. They give a burning sensation when exposed to spices or acidic food. I am otherwise healthy. Eating normally now. What is your opinion doc

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query burning sensation and patches on tongue inflammation on tongue or depapillation of papilla. Burning sensation along with the white patches occurs in candidal infection and erosive lichen planus or it can be two separate lesions like leukoplakia. i would suggest you to good oral physician to rule out systemic conditions.
If it is candidiasis then you have to take topical antifungal like candid mouth paint and nystatin suspensions. If it is leukoplakia, you have to stop the habit of smoking and take antioxidants like capsule lycopene. Iif it is lichen planus then you have to take topical steroids like triamcinolone acetonide. You can also take topical anesthetic and analgesics like anabel gel for the pain. Maintain proper oral hygiene.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
