What Causes Burning Sensation And Swelling In The Upper Back After An Injury?

I recently fell about 4 feet from my porch landing directly on my mid to upper back on an upside down chair. Obviously it broke the chair, but two days later my upper back is still on fire and the swelling and tightness is moving down my sides around to my abdomen. I have not gone to the Dr yet thinking it is just muscle strain and the bruising a result of the impact on an object. Still hurts to breathe deep or cough, but can walk. Can t lift my arm without it feel like it is tearing something at my armpit. Any advise on what to do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The main treatment of any soft tissue injury involves rest, the use of muscle relaxant, anti inflammatory pain medication and warm compresses.

The anti inflammatory pain medication would be over the counter but you may need a prescription for the muscle relaxant.
EG of muscle relaxants are flexeril, soma, baclofen

Eg of anti inflammatory medication are naproxen, cataflam, ibuprofen

The warm compresses can be applied for 10 to 15 minutes , 2 to 3 times a day.

I hope this helps
